Storyline Summary
The film is an anthology—four interconnected stories across cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. In all four stories, the emotional angst of love is depicted across different stages of life:

Metro In Dino movie

Monty & Kajol (Pankaj Tripathi & Konkona Sen Sharma) – A middle-aged couple wrestling with infidelity and loneliness in a long marriage.

Akash & Shruti (Ali Fazal & Fatima Sana Shaikh) – Two young working professionals with to choose between professional ambitions and their failing relationship.

Parth & Chumki (Aditya Roy Kapur & Sara Ali Khan) – A Gen-Z couple wrestling with today’s relationship issues and technology alienation.

Shibani & Parimal (Neena Gupta & Anupam Kher) – Two seniors seeking companionship in their twilight years.

The stories are also joined by thematic resonance and the constant musical score that acts as a steady heartbeat to the film.

What Works
Stellar Performances
Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma are completely deep within their characters. Their story is raw, emotional, and hugely relatable.

Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh are understated but powerful in their acting, establishing just the right depiction of a couple unraveling incrementally.

Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher shine in a much-needed, rare instance of late-in-life romance that’s both humorous and sad.

Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan embody the dilemmas of young city couples with believable chemistry.

Music as Emotion
The soundtrack isn’t simply background filler like most musicals. The music is emotional storytelling. The songs blend seamlessly into scenes, enhancing the mood and pace.

Visual Aesthetic
Every story is well-shot with a clear tone. From street corners to lone apartments, the cinematography creates emotional resonance. The composition, the colors, and the subtle lighting all enhance the mood of each story arc.

Realistic Themes
The film does not shy away from painful truths—emotional infidelity, loneliness, virtual isolation, and fear of being exposed. The themes resonate with audiences today who love realistic narratives.

What Could Be Better
Pacing Issues
Over two and a half hours long, the pace of the film slumps in the middle. A few scenes could have done with more snipping, particularly where subplots felt drawn out.

Uneven Storylines
Though all the stories mostly struck the right emotional chord, one or two stories—especially the Gen-Z romance—came across as being half-baked. It was missing the maturity and conclusion that the other narratives provided.

Forgettable Songs
Though the background score complements the narrative well, none of the songs are memorable. There are a couple of songs which do not have the imprint that one would want from a Basu-Pritam collaboration.

Worth Watching in Theatres?
Yes—Metro… In Dino is something worth seeing on the big screen, especially if you’re a fan of emotional dramas and ensemble films. The imagery, music, and performances come alive all the more urgently in a movie theater. If you prefer subtle tale-spinning about love, city living, and emotional complexity, this film is well worth your time.

All that notwithstanding, in case you enjoy fast-paced plots or commercial masala films, the slower pace and layered dialogues may not appeal to you quite so much.

⭐ Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Last Thoughts
Metro…This is not merely a film—this is a contemplative mirror that shows us how love survives, is reshaped, and sometimes vanishes in our busy, modern existence. It is flawed, yet it speaks to the heart.
It especially speaks to those of us who have lived some of the complexities of love. Anurag Basu reminds us again that he understands the emotional currents behind our everyday lives.
